Bob Kellar fails to report

Bob Kellar, Mayor of the City of Santa Clarita, is currently being investigated by the California Fair Political Practices Commission for his failure to report his full financial history since his election to the city council in 2000. Kellar has failed to disclose both his gross income (in 2002, 2003, and 2004) and also individual sources of income over $10,000 such as the commission he made from representing College of the Canyons in a purchase of land for the college's Canyon Country campus.

Kellar claims he is protecting the identity of his clients (Kellar is a real estate agent and a partner at Kellar-Davis Realty). However, the California Association of Realtors says other agents who serve as elected officials often choose to disclose their financial information. Kellar faces a further state investigation and serious fines for failing to comply.

Why does Kellar think he's above the law? What is Bob Kellar hiding in his financial records? Could it be that Kellar has profited from representing companies who have an interest in developing portions of the City of Santa Clarita? Or, is Bob Kellar just incompetent? (Kellar is the Chief Financial Officer for Kellar-Davis).

If Bob Kellar has skeletons in his fiduciary closet, he may try to keep them there until after Election Day- April 8th, 2008 when Kellar is up for re-election. Will voters in Santa Clarita take notice that Kellar is facing an investigation or will Bob Kellar retain his possibly lucrative seat on the city council?
